The 52nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place from February 25 to March 7, 2008 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York

The theme for the 52nd session is “Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women”. The review theme at this session will be "Women's participation in conflict prevention, management, conflict resolution, and in post-conflict peace-building".

 

The World YWCA will send a delegation to the meeting and organize a side event on innovative financing for women's empowerment based on experience from the Power to Change Fundraising campaign that raised USD 15 million for a permanent fund for the leadership development of women and girls.

 

The CSW is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. It is the principal global policy-making body. Every year, representatives of Members states gather at United Nations Headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of women worldwide.
