World Social Forum 2008
Country:
Global
City:
All over the world
On January 26, millions of women and men, organisations, networks, movements, trade unions from all parts of the world will act together all around the globe to show that 'another world is possible'

The World Social Forum (WSF) 2008 brings a new concept: instead of having a meeting in one specific city, the idea is to mobilise the world in a Global Day of Action. On January 26, any movement, group or organisation can promote their own actions to build 'another possible world'.

A Global Call for Action issued by the WSF International Council is asking social movements and civil society worldwide to mobilise together in the week culminating on January 26, 2008.

The date of January 26 comes from the choice to organise the Global Day of Action in the same period of the Davos summit, to maintain the confrontation with this important neo-liberal gathering of the elites and let live the spirit of WSF which always took place at the end of January.

The World Social Forum is an open space where social movements, networks, NGOs and other civil society organisations come together to lift up issues, debate ideas democratically, formulate proposals, share experiences, and network for effective action.

The World YWCA has been involved in the last World Social Forums. During the WSF 2007, who took place in Nairobi, Kenya, 2 delegates of the World office and a group of young women from YWCAs in Africa represented the movement with the objectives to ensure a visible ecumenical contribution to the WSF and to collaborate with other organisations on issues of mutual concern.
