International World AIDS Campaign: National Campaigning Meeting on Universal Access
July 2-4

The National Campaigning Meeting on Universal Access will be held from July 2-4 2007, providing a space for independent civil society campaigners from around the world to meet and share strategies. The meeting is the second biannual national campaigners meeting organised by the World AIDS Campaign (WAC) whose slogan is "Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise".

WAC have selected the theme 'universal access to prevention, treatment, care and support' as it represents the simplest campaigning formula emerging from the UNGASS 2001: Declaration of Commitment and the UN High Level Meeting on AIDS in New York, 2006.

The objectives of the meeting are:

  • Sharing skills and best practices from campaigning at a national level
  • Examining the impact of “The Three Ones” process on independent civil society campaigning and advocacy
  • Building awareness around universal access and sharing civil society perspectives on universal access
  • Linking campaigners and promoting broad constituency based campaigning efforts with networks such as the positive networks, faith, labour and women's groups
  • Identify emerging leadership on universal access within civil society and identifying plans for cultivating and enhancing this leadership
  • Plan joint actions for World AIDS Day, around the 2007/2008 theme 'leadership'
