A range of exhibits and displays will feature information aboutprogrammes and activities of YWCAs and partner organisations, with a special focus on HIV and AIDS during the IWS. From Brazil to the Bahamas, Thailand to Madagascar, Finland to New Zealand; learn how YWCAs are changing lives and communities for the better. Other exhibitors include positive women’s networks, UN agencies, ecumenical groups and AIDS related organisations.
Sokoni is also a place of fun – join choirs singing Kenyan songs,learn the Japanese technique of the Furoshiki, participate in a gentle exercise programme designed for cancer recovery, watch a theatre play by school girls about female genital mutilation, dance to the beat of African drummers, contribute to a patchwork, make a necklace with beads, dress up in traditional Indonesian dress, plus lots more. There is space at Sokoni for last minute activities, which can be registered at the Sokoni information desk. Check the daily schedule of Sokoni Activities on display at the Sokoni message board.
The Makutano (consultancy services) provides an opportunity for delegates to obtain free expert advice in an informal and relaxed environment. Consultants with wide ranging expertise are available to exchange ideas, as well as discuss problems and potential solutions facing conference participants in their personal and professional lives. Some of the free consultancies available include psychological and moral support for positive women, community poverty reduction strategies, learning about HIV transmission and safe sex, home based care, fundraising and grant writing, and more. A consultancy directory with available times will be displayed at the Sokoni Information Desk.
Participants will need to sign up for these sessions.
Market days have been scheduled for the selling of handicrafts,products and publications, which will also attract local artisans.
