International Get ready for YWLF!
As a young woman leader, you have issues you are concerned about and you want to discuss these with other young women from all around the world - the Young Womens' Leadership Forum is just the place for you. The YWLF will not only give you a voice, but also the skills you need to lead change in your community.

This two-day training event for young women, by young women, will feature guest speakers, thought-provoking discussions and fun inter-cultural activities.

Poster Exhibition: July 1-11

The YWCA has such a rich history and we want to display and celebrate this history by having a poster exhibition. So bring old posters from your YWCA and lets display them at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre for everyone to enjoy!

 

Interactive interview with Dr Musimbi Kanyoro: July 1

Kirsty, YWCA of Scotland, will moderate an interactive interview with Dr Musimibi Kanyoro, General Secretary of the World YWCA. This event gives you have a special opportunity to discuss and interact with the General Secretary of the World YWCA. Learn more about the YWCA by asking her about all the issues you always wanted to know about like the future vision of the YWCA movement, new approaches, challenges and successes of the YWCA.

 

Advocacy training: July 1

This panel discussion is all about real women leading different organisations, many of them are under 30 years old. They came to the YWLF panel discussion to share their stories and their experiences. Some of these panel members are from large NGOs and some are young women working at the grass-roots level in the areas they are passionate about.

Their experiences are sometimes sad, funny, inspiring, tormenting… but all panel members are experts in their chosen fields.

Workshops: July 2

YWLF offers Four different workshops convened by partner organisations. Please, think about which workshop you will attend ahead of time. The workshops are:

  • Raising Funds & Mobilising Resources for HIV and AIDS - Joanna Kerr
  • Focus Group on Adolescent Girls – Coalition for Adolescent Girls
  • Young Feminist Responses to HIV and AIDS - Association for Women’s Rights in Development
  • New Preventative Technologies - HPV, Female Condom, Microbicides, Vaccines

48Fest Competition: July 3-5

MTV will host the 48Fest competition at this year's International Women's Summit (IWS) - the event features 48 young people from the IWS making a 3 minute film in just 48 hours! All the films will be about an aspect of HIV like HIV testing, condoms, violence, etc.

 

If you applied to participate in this competition - hold tight - you should receive a confirmation by the end of the week.

 

The films will be premiered at an Awards Ceremony on July 5, 8.--pm at the Hilton Hotel. Ddon't miss the chance to see some great films on HIV put together by your friends and peers!

Karibu Night: July 1 & Inter-cultural Evening: July 2

Karibu means welcome in Swahili. On July 1, YWCA Kenya will entertain YWLF delegates to an evening - Kenyan Style! These evening is set to be a wonderful introduction to Kenyan food, culture, dance and music!

 

The Inter-Cultural Evening is meant to be a celebration of cultural diversity as expressed through food, drinks, music, dance, poems, drama etc.

 

The evening will be inspired by what participants bring to share with others from their own culture(s). You are kindly invited to bring things to share with others in this evening.

Imagining Ourselves

The World YWCA will moderate the Imaging Ourselves online blog during World Council and beyond. The topic is: Self Esteem and building leadership. Sign up today to participate in this thought provoking and important topic.
