world ywca annual report 2005-2006 cover
2005 marked a significant milestone for the World YWCA – 150 years since the YWCA first begun. This anniversary enabled YWCAs in every corner of the globe to reflect on the past and celebrate the dramatic growth and achievement of over a century and a half.

Empowering Women and Girls

Around the world, YWCAs continue to invest in the leadership development of women and girls as the most effective strategy for creating social, economic and cultural change. This year the World YWCA stepped up its efforts to develop leaders who are able to impact on their communicated through Regional Training Institutes held around the globe. Mobilising leadership on HIV and AIDS was a central focus of these trainings as one of the more pressing issues for women and girls in our lifetime, along with skills for strong management and accountability of YWCAs.

The YWCA remains a grassroots movement working in thousands of local communities. The organization focuses resources where they will have the greatest impact, develops strategies to secure the future of its actions, and collaborate with a range off partners to strengthen impact.
