Conference hubs aim expanding participation in the conference by allowing people not otherwise able to attend in person to view selected sessions. In addition, hubs will allow greater focused attention on regional issues. As the Conference grows larger and more expensive every year, regional hubs may lead to multiple, concurrent and smaller conferences in the future, especially in places without the capacity to hold larger international conferences.
There will be one official hub in the University of KwaZulu Natal, Durban, South Africa organised by AIDS 2008 and the University.
Additionally, partner hubs, organised by partners of the International Conference (World YWCA, ICASO, GNP+, ICW, AHRN, UNAIDS, etc) and independent hubs, organised by any interested organisation (faith/based organisations, AIDS societies, schools, etc) or individual, will be put together.
Organise a hub
There are the requirements to organise a hub:
- A venue with adequate seating
- A computer, a projector, a screen and a decent sound system
- A good internet connection (the content will be provided free of charge to all approved hubs)
- The ability and resources to advertise the hub to your target group (all hubs will be advertised on the AIDS 2008 web site)
Please note that the conference organisers do not provide any financing for the hubs. However, they will promote them through the official AIDS 2008 web site, providing technical guidelines and the content.
If you are interested in setting up a hub, read the detailed facts and questions listed at the conference hub webpage. Online registration for hubs has already opened.
Attend a hub
If you cannot organise a hub but are interested in attending one, please visit conference hub web page to see the full list of hubs. Sign up for the hubs will start around May.
