Women and girls find a unique place in the YWCA – a place where they can build long-term relationships and have opportunities to learn and contribute. It is a constant for women and girls as they travel through the different phases of their lives. It is a place for those who want to make a difference in their communities, nations and world.
YWCA leadership development is unique in its approach. It inspires, motivates and empowers women and girls to discover their power to change. It takes place in a learning environment led and designed by women that offers a safe place for women and girls to realise their potential. It seeks to multiply learning, share expertise among women and expand the pool of leaders trained through tools such as train-the-trainer and mentoring. It is a dynamic process that nurtures and grows women leaders.
YWCA leadership development takes many forms and reaches out to women and girls of all ages:
It is grassroots development that empowers women to improve their lives and communities
- It is education, training, coaching, mentoring and peer learning
- It is participating in an internship or exchange programme
- It is experience as a volunteer in a programme or on a committee or board of directors
- It is exposure and education that increases awareness of global issues and their local impact
- It is representation and leadership opportunities that provide space to grow as women leaders
- It is formal training programmes that build skills and knowledge
- It iscapacity building and skill sharing
