none Trade for people
The World YWCA is committed to working for justice in global trade. We believe that trade is not an end in itself, but an instrument for the promotion of human well being, sustainable communities and economic justice.

The Trade for People - Not People for Trade campaign is an initiative of the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance, of which the World YWCA is a founding member. The campaign is working to engage churches and church-related organisations to promote trade justice.

Trade for People calls for prioritising human rights agreements over trade agreements.

Campaign focus areas:

  • · right to food
  • access to essential services
  • regulation of transnational corporations

Campaign objectives :

  • trade rules and practices that further the right to food and sustainable agriculture, and promote greater self-reliance in developing countries
  • global and national policies and trade rules that ensure access for all to essential services as defined by human rights principles
  • regulation of transnational corporations (TNCs) that ensures that they contribute to poverty eradication, promotion of human rights and protection of the environment
