none Internship at the World YWCA
The World YWCA Young Women’s Internship Programme is intended to increase the number of globally experienced and trained leaders who will return to their associations to share their experiences and learning with as well as provide leadership for increased and improved understanding of what the world movement is all about. Young women candidates between the ages of 22-30 years endorsed by their national association are invited to apply.

We are particularly seeking applicants with interest and experience in advocacy and communications around the key priorities of the World YWCA including human rights, sexual and reproductive health and HIV and AIDS and violence against women. Interns need strong organizational skills, an ability to work well in teams and to juggle multiple priorities.

One–year Internship

The one-year Programme (January to December) provides a special opportunity for two young women, to work as part of the World YWCA staff and volunteer team in Geneva.

Advocacy Internships
Four young women will be selected to participate at either the annual UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York or the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Responsibilities of National Associations submitting internship applications:

  1. To recommend and endorse any applications submitted to the World YWCA for consideration. This should include an individual assessment of the abilities and experience of the candidate, as well as her potential to relate her experience to the international level. The national association should work with each interested young woman to ensure that her application is complete and contains all the necessary information to be fully considered by the World Office. It is necessary that national associations endorse their applications and forward no more than four candidates to the World Office.
  2. If selected, to support preparation for the internship. This includes developing a plan for when she returns to her association, how she can share her experiences, and how her new skills and leadership abilities can be productively used for the association. This preparatory work is invaluable to the success of the internship experience for all concerned.
  3. To pay 20% of the round-trip airfare for the applicant.
  4. To assist the selected participant with visa and travel arrangements.

Responsibilities of the World YWCA:

The World Office is responsible for 80% of the air-ticket (most economical and most direct route), the living arrangements, stipend and programme content of World YWCA internship programme. Interns live independently in a residence/ hostel and the stipend provided covers basic food and incidentals.

We encourage you to share this information widely with young women in your association.
