International Honouring Women Leaders
Mónica Zetzsche, Musimibi Kanyoro and Elizabeth Palmer
World YWCA President Mónica Zetzsche (L), General Secretary Dr. Musimibi Kanyoro (R) and Elizabeth Palmer, General Secretary, (1956-1978) (M)
Is there a leader who has inspired you to action?
Is there a leader in your YWCA who has consistently empowered other women and girls through her leadership?
Is there a leader you admire who has used her leadership talents to effect positive change for women and their families?
Is there a woman in your YWCA, past or present, who deserves to be honoured?

In July of this year at the World YWCA Council in Nairobi, the World YWCA will honour women leaders from YWCAs around the globe: women who exemplify leadership and who in their own quiet or bold ways, have helped make the world a better place for women and girls.

A new programme has been started to honour, on an on-going basis, those exceptional and exemplary leaders in our YWCAs who have made a difference in our lives and in the lives of others. Join with other women in your YWCA to identify women whose leadership and impact created opportunities for women and girls. The names of all the women honoured will be compiled into an honour roll of women leaders which will be displayed at the World Council and on the World YWCA website. The honour roll will also be permanently kept in the World YWCA, so that their contributions will always be remembered.

This new programme will help support the Power to Change Fund, which will fund good programmes for women and girls in perpetuity. We ask that for every woman who you recognise, you donate to the Power to Change Fund in her honour or memory. There is no limit to the number of leaders who can be honoured nor is there a specific donation level, but we encourage you to set a challenging goal that is consistent with the leadership that this woman has provided.

As we make history in creating a strong foundation for YWCA leadership programmes to flourish in the future, we can also build a permanent history of the many leaders who have and are, charting the course for all of us—our mentors, role models, teachers and advisors.
