The YWCA of Georgia has thanked the World YWCA Board, staff, volunteers and YWCA movement for the letter of solidarity and support after conflict broke out on August 7 in the break away region of South Ossetia.

‘We thank you for your deep concern about the people of Georgia and about us. We highly appreciate your support in this period of unrest for Georgia’, said Eka Avaliani, President of YWCA of Georgia

Although the rest of the world is focussed on the political drama that is unfolding in the region, the YWCA of Georgia is concerned for the women and children of the country. “More than 100 000 people have been displaced. Among them who were forced to have fled are many women and children who are facing desperate conditions. It is unclear when they may go back to their places,” said Avaliani. “YWCA of Georgia has the great will and desire to make its contribution to help those women and children who suffer from the results of the war of which the moral damage is the worst.”

The YWCA of Georgia asked for the movement to continue to pray for peace with justice in the country. “Your prayers for our peace are extremely helpful in this very difficult time. We hope that the democratic societies in the Globe will find the way to peacefully solve this conflict and a chance will be given to our country to maintain peace and preserve its democratic Institutions.”
