International Register Now for Summit on Women and AIDS
In July this year, the World YWCA will host the first ever global conference on women and AIDS. The International Women’s Summit on Women’s Leadership and HIV and AIDS will bring together over 1500 women and men from July 4-7, 2007 to develop strategies, skills and partnerships in response to the impact of AIDS on women and girls.

A host of international experts and grassroots activists are confirmed to speak at the event, including:

  • Christoph Benn , Director of External Relations at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS
  • Mabel Bianco , Director, FEIM, Foundation for Women's Studies and Research
  • Prof. Yakin Erturk , UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women
  • Helen Gayle , President and CEO, Care International
  • Charity Kaluki Ngilu , Minister of Health, Kenya
  • Mukesh Kapila , International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
  • Dr Peter Piot , Executive Director, UNAIDS
  • Mary Robinson , former President of Ireland
  • Ramesh Singh , Chief Executive, Action Aid International
  • Alice Welbourn , Board, International Community of Women Living with HIV and AIDS

A one day Positive Women’s Forum will kick off the event on July 4, 2007, ensuring positive women have a space to mobilise and determine key issues to be addressed through the IWS. From July 5-7, 2007, plenary and high level breakout sessions will explore a range of issues related to the AIDS response for women and girls including women’s rights, religion, violence against women, trade, children, representation in decision making and investing more resources for women. Dozens of workshops on intersecting issues and capacity building needs will also be held, along with town hall meetings on cutting edge issues. The Women Leading Change Awards will honour exceptional leaders working in the heart of communities to lead change on HIV and AIDS; and the Sokoni marketplace will be an ideal place for networking, sharing resources, seeking advice and buying local products.

Register now online to be part of a new vision for women’s leadership on HIV and AIDS. Proposals for workshops at the Summit are currently being accepted, as are nominations for the Women Leading Change Awards, but get in early to avoid missing out.
