The Nairobi 2007 call to Action outlines 10 key areas for action based on the existing knowledge and evidence about the life experience of women and girls around the world. “We have learned that to address the underlying issues which have created the feminisation of HIV, we need to address violence, conflict, gender inequality and poverty,” Susan Brennan, president to the World YWCA affirms. By developing the 10 points of the Call to Action, the World YWCA and its partners in developing the action hope to ensure a balanced and effective response to the pandemic. “These 10 critical areas will go far to rebalance the present power and balance between men and women that fuel the epidemic for women,” Louise Binder founding member of the Blueprint for Action on Women and Girls and HIV said at the launch of the Call to Action.
The World YWCA, the International Community of Women living with HIV (ICW), along with several organisations, networks, and individuals have committed to advance the 10 critical actions that will create change in the lives of women and girls around the world.
