“Our micro finance participants and their homes from Delta were severely hit by the storm. We have been visiting their places and distributing rice, oil, candles, sardines, biscuits, drinking water, oral rehydration, salt, clothes, mugs and bowls. All of them lost their homes and they are now staying at the Shelters provided by the church and neighbours, which are still wet,” Daw Aye Kywe, General Secretary of the YWCA of Myanmar explains.

Although some victims have found shelter, vulnerable communities such as street children are usually forgotten. The YWCA of Myanmar is working in Yangon to provide aid to the street children in the aftermath. “Our street children project staff are volunteering and helping the children from the most affected townships. Most of the houses from the project areas were damaged by the strong wind. This weekend we are going to the storm affected areas again to help. They especially need help with daily food, drinking water, roofs, clothes and medicine. We are helping as much as we can, “ says Kywe.

Weather reports from Myanmar forecast heavy rains later in the week. “We are facing a very difficult time. Remember us in your prayers.”
