YWCA Week Without Violence 15 - 21 October, 2006
International YWCA Week Without Violence 2006 activities around the world
The YWCA Week Without Violence is annual worldwide campaign that takes place in the third week of October to encourage communities to think and act towards a world without violence.

This year, the World YWCA would like to draw attention to violence against young women and girls.

Young women and girls are especially vulnerable to being abused physically, psychologically, and sexually because of lack of social experience and financial dependency on their parents.

Young women and girls experience violence daily in various forms such as, date rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, murder, commercial sexual exploitation, abuse, neglect.

Violence against young women and girls happens not only within family settings or on the street, but also increasingly via the Internet. Photos and movies that violate young women and especially girls are distributed and shared throughout the world through the Internet.
Ignorance of these situations threatens a young woman’s well-being and development, moreover, it can accelerate her risk of contracting HIV and AIDS.

This is the time for YWCAs around the world to take leadership to bring about changes in every home and community where there is suffering.
