Several internship opportunities are available at the World YWCA office in Geneva, Switzerland including two positions as one-year interns. The year-long internship offers young women from the YWCA movement the opportunity to work with an international organisation and learn how such organisations are run. The particular challenges facing advocacy on the priority issues of the YWCA are explored, giving the young women the skills to contribute to her association’s endeavours in these areas.

Another four positions are available for short-term advocacy interns. This exciting internship offers young women the opportunity to attend a major international conference as a YWCA delegate. Through the advocacy internship, the intern learns about the inner working of the United Nations and the complexity of advocacy on the global platform. The opportunity aims to develop young women’s leadership skills around critical issues.

 

Sarah Davis from the YWCA of Aotearoa /New Zealand started her internship in January 2007 along with Caterina Lemp of the YWCA of Chile. “I think this internship is really empowering,” Davis commented in a recent interview, ”you actually work on projects, you are a valuable member of staff, you take part in decision making and your opinion really counts.”

 

“For me, it was always a dream to work at the World YWCA office,” Lemp reveals, “I wanted to learn about the YWCA movement at the global level so that I can help the YWCA in my region.”
