The YWCA of Korea celebrates 85 years
The prime Minister of South Korea, Mr Han Duck-soo, was among the 500 people who attended a celebration held in Seoul on April 23, 2007 to commemorate 85 years of YWCA in Korea. Dr. Musimbi Kanyoro., World YWCA General Secretary was the key note speaker.

YWCA of Rwanda honours 24 women and contributes USD 1,000 to the Power to Change Fund
The YWCA of Rwanda honoured 24 women from their community at a World YWCA Day celebration held on April 23, 2007. A contribution of USD 1,000 was made to the Power to Change Fund in honour of the women who were nominated for their commitment to the association, their role as exemplary leaders, and the impact their work has had in bringing change to the community.

YWCA Rwanda contribute USD 730 towards World Council 2007
Jacqueline Mukamusana and Pudentienne Uzamukunda, Executive Secretary and President YWCA Rwanda respectively, presented a contribution of USD 730 to Dr. Musimibi Kanyoro, General Secretary, World YWCA on August 26th, 2006 in Nairobi, Kenya. Each member of the 1,000 member strong association has committed to contribute one dollar (US) towards the World Council.

Erin Brockovich to share message of personal empowerment
Erin Brockovich was as ordinary a person as they come. A struggling single mom in the early 1990s, she stumbled across some critical information in a file at a law firm where she worked as a file clerk. With unyielding persistence, Brockovich spent the next several years investigating why hundreds of people in Hinkley, California, who lived next to a Pacific Gas and Electric compressor station, were sick and dying. Her research eventually led to the largest direct action lawsuit of its kind in which the utility paid $333 million in damages to more than 600 residents of the town.

YWCA Canada join in criticism of government cuts to women's budget
Non-governmental organisations and activists in Canada used this year's International Women's Day, March 8, to criticise Beverly Oda, Conservative cabinet minister for cuts and mandate changes at Status of Women Canada. A day earlier, Oda had announced a $5-million increase in grants the agency distributes for women's projects. The money amounts to a redirection of a $5-million cut to Status of Women's administrative budget last September, resulting in the closure of 12 of 16 regional offices on April 1.

Women and men ride in solidarity to end violence
Some 400 women from all over the city of Belmopan cycled for solidarity and fitness on Saturday March 3, as part of the annual Bike Rally for Women’s Week. The event which began on Western Avenue at 6:00A.M. cycled through many principal streets to finish with a breakfast at the Y.W.C.A. headquarters corner St. Thomas Street and Freetown Road.
