Deadline for the Red Ribbon Awards nomination: February 29, 2008
The red ribbon is a global symbol in the movement to address AIDS. The Award is a joint initiative of the UNAIDS family together with the Leadership and Community Programme Committees of the XVII International AIDS Conference (IAC) to be held in Mexico City from August 3 to 8, 2008.
The International AIDS Conference is a biennial meeting that has become the world’s largest open forum on global health. These conferences provide a unique forum for the interaction of science, community and leadership and strengthen an evidence-based policy and programmatic response to HIV and AIDS.
Twenty-five community groups will receive an award through a community-led selection process. Two representatives of each winning group will be brought to IAC in Mexico City, August 3-8, 2008. They will showcase their work at the conference through the Community Dialogue Space in the Global Village. All 25 communities will receive 5000USD and 5 of these will receive special recognition and an additional 15,000USD.
Grassroots initiatives, community-based organisations, faith-based organisations and small non-governmental organisations are eligible. They will be eligible in one of 5 categories:
