International Emily Lee Fong - a woman leader across cultures
A survivor of the 1906 earthquake, Emily Lee Fong was an original member of the Chinese YWCA Board of Directors in the 1920s.

She was instrumental in getting members of the Chinese community to improve health care, literacy and job training for women in San Francisco, USA. Emily Fong remained an activist all her life and during World War II led Women’s Volunteer Services to help sell war bonds.

Through her work, the Chinatown YWCA became the Chinatown Historical Society and a permanent exhibit. The Emily Lee Fong room is dedicated to the importance of the YWCA in the history of Chinatown.
