Judith’s gift to the Y in Australia was to “think globally and act locally”. This was exemplified in the remarkable extension work at the grass roots level she undertook in South Australia without ever losing sight of the national and World perspective.
Judith established girls clubs, women’s clubs and youth groups in the outer suburbs of Adelaide and mostly worked with newly arrived migrant women. In 1970 Judith took up the role of Executive Director of Whyalla and started outreach work from a caravan, initiating many innovative women’s services in the community. These included a women’s refuge and establishment of a Rural Student Accommodation project.
Judith worked in Whyalla until her retirement in 1995. In her retirement Judith was ardent in supporting and working for the rights of asylum seekers.Judith was made a Life Member of the National movement in 1989 and was also made a Member of the Order of Australia.
