Held at All Saints Cathedral, YWCA of Egypt President, Dr. Marlene Kanawati introduced the vigil to those who gathered. “We mainly prayed for the victims of the siege of Gaza and the massacres and sufferings of a whole population, and to ask them to join in praying for the Union of the Palestinian people to face their plight,” said Dr Kanawati. “We also asked them to pray for a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel in order to end this very long ordeal once and for all.”
The candlelight vigil coincided with the Week of Prayer for the Union of all the Churches and Heads and Bishops of all the various denominations found in Egypt attended the service.
The chorus sang Hymns for peace and each Bishop said a prayer for both the union of churches and peace in Palestine.
On February 27 the YWCA of Egypt will hold their National Board meeting. “We will begin the meeting with prayers for Palestine and the souls of the departed. Father Raja will lead this session, and we shall all stand for the prayers. We believe that all these prayers will find an ear with our Merciful God.”
