Pre-Council Events:
AFRICA PARTNERSHIP SAFARI June 28 - 30
Twenty-seven African YWCAs will host pre-council visits. YWCAs will be invited to select participants for a study safari to a designated YWCA in Africa. The field trip will take place June 27 to July 1. On July 2, all participants will gather in Nairobi to map the onward journey and prepare to report during World Council.
This experience is offered to YWCA member associations to:
- Experience the reality of African YWCAs in the context of HIV and AIDS
- Develop a framework of partnership and sister relationships between YWCAs
- Learn how African women are changing lives and changing communities
YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP FORUM
July 1-2
This event will bring together dynamic young leaders (18 - 30 years) to set the tone for the World YWCA and the global women’s movement.
The Forum will be an opportunity for
- Affirming young women’s leadership
- Reviewing young women’s leadership in the YWCA
- Envisioning the leadership of young women on HIV and AIDS
- Identifying and providing solutions to barriers to young women’s progress on development
- Preparing for leadership succession in the women’s movement
- Building skills to influence change
- Networking and creating support systems
CAPACITY BUILDING FOR NEW ASSOCIATIONS
July 1-2
This pre-council will prepare new associations for affiliation and offer training in management and movement building skills. Selected additional YWCAs will also be invited to enhance the learning. Attendance is by invitation only.

A day to experience Kenyan and African hospitality through worship, tourism, culture and indigenous cuisine. Tantalising possibilities will include:
- Attend church services of your choice and experience African ways of worship
- Attend indigenous African-initiated outdoor worship with drumming and dancing
- Take a trip to Karen Blixen's house, author of the book which inspired the film “Out of Africa”.
- Vsit Kibera, the site of the film “The Constant Gardner”
- VisitNairobiGamePark for an experience of African wild life
- Join in the Kenyan and African dance and cultural programme
- Sample and savor Kenyan and African delicacies
